What is Baring Polybead Cavity Wall Insulation?
Baring Polybead consists of small expanded polystyrene beads called Polybeads which are bonded together by a special adhesive. These inert Polybeads will not shrink, crack, settle or flow after installation and even if the outer wall is saturated they don't lose their insulation value. Nor can damp penetrate because the beads are bonded in such a way that air flows between them. This allows moisture to drain away without ever penetrating the inner wall. The special bonding agent ensures that when any future openings of the cavity are made for replacement windows etc, the insulation will stay in place.
How is it installed?
Small injection holes of 25mm (1inch) are drilled in the mortar joint between the bricks, and the Polybeads are then injected into the wall cavities. The special bonding agent allows the beads to flow freely until the cavity is completely filled. On completion of the fill the injection holes are carefully filled with matching mortar which soon becomes almost indistinguishable from the original.
Will filling the cavity increase the risk of dampness?
Baring Polybead Cavity Wall Insulation is tested and approved by the British Board of Agrément. The Polybeads have a closed cell structure that prevents water absorption or penetration.
Can it be used in any building?
Baring Polybead Cavity Wall Insulation can be installed in all types of buildings provided there is a suitable cavity capable of being filled. It is approved by the British Board of Agrément for use in any exposure zone and for all types of walls up to 12 metres (40 feet) in height.
