The VS VirtualSource™ Floorstander is the ultimate implementation of the Aurousal full-range, true imaging philosophy. The only conventional aspect of this design is the cabinet exterior, which is a well proven and elegant design with rounded front edges and styling of classic natural beauty. This is where convention ends and Aurousal really does bring you that ‘crossover-free emotion’:

·          An array of 2 full-range drivers positioned strategically equi-distant from listening axis, giving full acoustic coupling at listening distances greater than 1M and a vertically polarised, focused semi-cylindrical (ovoid) wavefront. This affords enhanced image stability at far-field and an even greater proportional reduction in ceiling/floor reflections. There is reduced volume drop-off with distance and the workload is spread across the drivers over the whole frequency range.

·          An optimally aligned bass reflex loaded quarter wavelength straight transmission line cabinet acoustic where the cabinet height acts as a straight line, the length of which is moderated by use of a bottom front mounted double-flared reflex port tuned to 30Hz giving powerful bass capability down to 25Hz (-6db).  This is easily extended in-room, depending on room dimensions (which dictate lowest frequency possible and will contribute somewhat at this frequency) to subsonic values.

·          Room ambient brightness adjustment: A domed neodymium HF Unit can be switched into the array and adjusted according to taste. This is closely aligned to the full-range output, and introduced gradually (crossover-free) at a relatively high frequency to add dispersed HF. The effect is additional brightness/air to the upper-most frequencies, still maintaining the excellent core image. It is particularly effective at counteracting dull/highly damped rooms or where an extended off-axis listening area is required. It also allows for greater than usual toe-in for a widened soundstage (speakers at greater than normal distance apart).

·          Cabinet is double-side veneered to 2cm thick, with highly grained real wood  (light cherry, dark cherry and also available in piano black) and has a 2cm thick additional reinforcement baffle running the whole internal length and additional front-back bracing. This, combined with the minimal reactive force of the two ultra-light driver diaphragms and substantial internal damping gives negligible cabinet resonance (floor spikes are completely unnecessary sonically but the adjustable screw-in feet can be replaced if required).

Each stereo channel is set up virtually; you don’t hear a loudspeaker directly but a clean ‘virtual’ source set up behind the wide and fully transparent ‘window’ created between the 2 drivers and the non-directional port output.

The two virtual stereo channels then combine infront of the listener to create truly holographic source reproduction with full bass extension and without any need for a subwoofer, even in a large room. The musical ‘presence’ created is uncannily real to say the least. This is only possible by using true full-range driver technology, giving a full sonic picture of the source rather than one re-constructed from separated parts. The analogy is a picture window rather than a composite of stained glass.
